Alessandro Barbieri has been working in theatre since his graduation in 2007 from Scuola d'Arte Drammatica Paolo Grassi in Milan (IT) as Stage technician.

He designed the lighting for different genres of live performances.

He worked with the international choreographer Aakash Odedra for the multi-award-winning #JeSuis and many directors such as Serena Sinigaglia, Valter Malosti, Elio Germano, Federico Grazzini and Sandro Mabellini.

In 2015 he moved to Antwerp (BE) shadowing the Lighting designer Fabiana Piccioli on dance and opera productions around Europe.

After moving back to Italy in 2017 he co-founded the artistic and theatrical collective named operabianca.

He has been chief Lighting technician at Triennale Milano Teatro in 2019-2022.

Alessandro Barbieri graduated as Stage technician at Scuola d'Arte Drammatica Paolo Grassi in Milan (IT) in 2006/07 and worked in lighting the next year at the school itself.

 

In 2008 he started a period of six seasons at Teatro Litta in Milan (now MTM). During this experience he participated in all the internal productions and worked for many festivals, guest companies, hall rentals, as well as toured different Italian theatres with the company productions. He worked with directors like Antonio Syxty, Sandro Mabellini, Alberto Oliva, Claudio Autelli, Carlo Roncaglia.

In the same years he also collaborated with other production centres and independent artists, starting experiences as Lighting designer for directors like Federico Grazzini, Fulvio Vanacore, Michelangelo Zeno.

In 2015 he moved to Antwerp (BE) and worked as carpenter on film sets.

He then started shadowing the Lighting designer Fabiana Piccioli on dance and opera productions in Belgium, England and Italy, ending in Teatro alla Scala of Milan for the Frederic Wake-Walker's Le nozze di Figaro (October 2016) with the set designer Antony McDonald.

After moving back to Italy in 2017 he designed the lighting for the dance production #JeSuis choreographed by Aakash Odedra, with a cast of seven dancers from Istanbul.

The studio version of the show was rehearsed in Leicester (UK) and premiered at Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The final part of the creation and the international premiere happened at NYU Arts Center of Abu Dhabi (UAE) in February 2018. The show won the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award 2017 and the ACTA Eastern Eye Award for Dance 2018.

He founded, together with a dramaturg and a choreographer, the artistic and theatrical collective named operabianca active in 2017/18. He took care of set, lighting and sound design for the shows/performances Woytila's ascension and Il tempo del massacro. He has managed all the company communication, including the design of the logo and of the website.

 

He has been the chief Lighting technician of Triennale Milano Teatro from September 2019 to December 2022.

He kept creating and following projects all around Italy collaborating with directors like Serena Sinigaglia, Valter Malosti, Elio Germano, Chiara Lagani, Michele Losi, Girolamo Lucania and companies like Cubo Teatro, TPE, Minima theatralia, ATIR, Infinito srl, Petralana, Talia's Machine.
